Meet Tuyen and her daughter Lan. Both have popular Vietnamese names.

Once, little Lan thought she was alone and didn't have any friends. Her mother reminded Lan that many new friends could be just around the corner. That day, Lan ventured out into her neighborhood and met a new langur, then another, then another. Soon she had a whole group of langur friends with which to play. All she had to do was look around for them! As they say in Vietnam, "It only takes a bamboo wall to cut us off from everyone."

Tuyen and Lan are douc langurs. Once thought to be rare, douc langurs are now known to be large in numbers and quite widespread, living in a variety of habitats. This includes monsoon forests, rainforests and semi-evergreen forests.

The douc's body is a patchwork of colors. The head is brown, the tail is white, the tops of arms and legs are black, the lower arms are white, the lower legs are chestnut, and the hands and feet are black.

Doucs are mostly found in Vietnam and Laos.
